The Problem
Good equipment shouldn't gather dust
A wheelchair bought for a grandmother's recovery does its job for a few months, then sits folded in a garage a year later - sturdy, barely worn, and completely forgotten. A crutch that got someone through a broken ankle ends up in the back of a closet. A patient lifter that once made daily care possible goes quiet after a loved one passes on.
None of it is broken. None of it is needed anymore. But across town, another family is stretching a tight budget to afford the very same item new, or going without it altogether, simply because there was never an easy way for the two households to find each other.
Rukula exists to close that gap - turning equipment that would otherwise sit idle into a second chance for someone who needs it now, at no cost to either family.

Built by volunteers who believe help shouldn't wait
Rukula is fully built, maintained and facilitated by members of the Rotaract Club of Gampaha - youth who give their time to connect neighbors who have with neighbors who need. No company sits behind this, and no money changes hands between families. Every listing is coordinated by a real person, not an algorithm chasing a sale.
We keep the process transparent and hands-on: volunteers help verify listings, arrange safe handovers, and check in with both sides so equipment moves from one family's garage into another family's home with as little friction, and as much care, as possible.
